Jean Jacques Rousseau – Swiss / French philosopher, born 28 June 1712

Jean Jacques Rousseau quote by Susannah Fullerton

HAPPY BIRTHDAY – Jean Jacques Rousseau, born 28 June 1712

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

“Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.”

I’ve seen his grave in the Pantheon in Paris, but I have not read his works. Somehow one becomes acquainted with his general ideas, and I know he was an extremely important 18thC figure, but I also have a feeling that reading Rousseau might send me to sleep.

Am I wrong? Have you ever read his novels? I’d be most interested to know what they are like? Tell me in the comment area below.
