A Conversation with Adrian Lukis
A Video Talk
The girls of Meryton would be green with envy! I enjoyed a heart-to-heart conversation with actor Adrian Lukis, better known to many people as Mr Wickham, and I will share it with you.
In 2019 Adrian planned to come to Australia. Sadly, due to illness, that visit did not take place, but, in August 2021, he agreed to be interviewed. Adrian joined me in a conversation via Zoom. This is a recording of our time together.
“Mr Wickham is blessed with such happy manners as may ensure his making friends – whether he may be equally capable of retaining them is less certain.” ― Mr Darcy
In 1995 actor Adrian Lukis played the role of George Wickham in the acclaimed BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Handsome and debonair, insincere and untrustworthy, his Wickham was a memorable part of that wonderful production. Who can forget his feigned modesty as he tells Elizabeth how Darcy has mistreated him? Or his elopement with bouncy Lydia Bennet?
Now, Adrian has revisited the character and Jane Austen’s charming rogue has returned. ‘Being Mr Wickham’ is Adrian’s one-man stage show, showing George Wickham, on the eve of his sixtieth birthday, lifting the sheets on what exactly happened thirty years on from where we left him. This is Mr Wickham setting the record straight!
Discover how Adrian secured the part that became one of his career highlights. Find out his favourite moments of the series and what it was like working with Colin Firth (sigh!). Learn what impact the role had on Adrian’s career, and hear all about his exciting one-man show and what inspired him to revisit the character and take on George Wickham thirty years after.
This Zoom video is a real treat! Taken from a live-streamed presentation, it has been carefully recorded and completely edited to deliver the experience of being part of an audience and having the best seat in the house. Recorded live during my online conversation with Adrian Lukis, he generously shares anecdotes and interesting moments from his experiences as Mr Wickham in the acclaimed 1995 BBC TV Series adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. He shares highlights of his career, lots of interesting anecdotes, and chats about his new stage production, Being Mr Wickham.

What an entertaining hour this was, and isn’t Adrian a lovely man? I hope you enjoyed the chat as much as I did. It was so interesting to hear his anecdotes about working with the Pride & Prejudice cast members.
I’d love to hear what you think. You can discuss it with me here.
It was an astonishingly rewarding experience – both of you shone! What a charmer Adrian is – still has the “ wicked” Wickham touch three decades later.
