A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth
The BBC has recently announced that it will be adapting Vikram Seth’s monumental novel A Suitable Boy as an 8-part drama. It will be their first ever period drama featuring a totally non-white cast. The screenplay will be written by (who else?) Andrew Davies. Filming will start later this year.
And PBS Masterpiece and the BBC are teaming up to create a new 3-part mini-series of Louisa May Alcott’s classic Little Women. The screenplay is by Heidi Thomas (of Call the Midwife fame). There have been about a dozen movie and TV versions of the novel already (the image above is from the 1933 film version starring Paul Lukas and Katharine Hepburn), but every generation needs its own Little Women.

I am also really looking forward to it. If it is done well, it should be a visual feast too, with Indian scenery, the crowd scenes, the colourtful saris etc.
