HAPPY BIRTHDAY – Günter Grass, born 16 October 1927
“Art is accusation, expression, passion. Art is a fight to the finish between black charcoal and white paper.”
Günter Grass is Germany’s most famous living novelist and in 1999 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was actually born in what is now Poland.
His most famous novel is The Tin Drum which was adapted into a very successful film. I find it a black and disturbing tale. Grass’s Danzig Trilogy is on my ‘To Read’ list.
Günter Grass died in April 2015 at the age of 87.
